Shower Smart: If you have teenagers, you don't have a power bill problem; you have a hostage situation. Swap your old showerhead for a low-flow one. You'll save money on both the water and the power required to heat it. And make them use a timer. Seriously. It seems unreasonable, but teenagers are all the same. “Wow, I actually do take half an hour.”
… Then round it down to 20 minutes. Then 15.Kill the Towel Rails: Only turn them on for a couple of hours before you shower. Leaving a towel rail on 24/7 uses more power over a year than a modern fridge.
Time Your Loads: If you’re on a time-of-use plan (where power is cheaper at night or during a "free hour of power"), shift your washing machine, dishwasher, and dryer to those hours.
